FEMALE/MALE DOGS HUMPING

Puppyhood socialization to another dog of the opposite sex can help a dog orient sexual behavior for adulthood. Whether you're going to breed the dog or not, it helps for the dog to develop the concept that sexuality is toward other dogs, not humans or pillows.
Much of the humping you'll see among puppies as well as among adult dogs is play. Some of it expresses dominance, but that's not always the case.
If a dog persists in humping another dog in a social situation, distracting the dog who's doing the humping into another activity is a good idea. For one thing, it's best that a dog not get obsessed with humping. Besides the potential annoyance to others, it can even result in physical irritation. When you consistently interrupt the humping, you prevent it from becoming a strong habit in the dog.
Secondly, being humped can become oppressive to the dog who is the target, so that's another reason to interrupt. This is a common complaint in situations where dogs get together to play, such as dog parks. Just distract the humping dog, without punishment of any kind.

When a female dog is in heat, she, other females, and of course the males around her may turn into humping fools. Of course, this would be sexual arousal. The excitement of the situation can lead to fighting, as well as the strong possibility of an accidental pregnancy if your not using a stud to breed them.

vegas used to try hump me most of the time, especially after play, eating and sleeping! i used to tell her no and then push her down! it got realy annoying sometimes especially if i was sat on the floor watching tele, cos shed just walk up to me and try hump me!

there is nothing worse than having people round and the dogs trying to hump your leg, luckely it has only happened to me once when suki was in heat and titch thought because he couldnt get to suki i would do! lol

when george was younger he used to try and hump toys and the kids legs we desided to have him done to see if this would calm him down, this did and he has never bothered since . but if you are going to breed the you will have to try an alternative route. a friend of ours has a little scottish terrier and he humps a big shaggy dog , stuffed of course, he only seems to do this when my husband is at there house, it does not help when he encourages him .

It is so funny when jims dog humps his shaggy friend! makes me chuckle because he is a small westy and hes got this great big teddy which he humps

My other dog who is a shitzu do humping with my mom's leg. My rottie never did that. Is that normal?
