EARLY SEPARATION ANXIETY Empty EARLY SEPARATION ANXIETY

Post by Jen Mon Jun 16, 2008 10:00 am

I think vegas has early separation anxiety. when we leave her she cries, howels, scratches at the living room door and tries to dig up the carpet. she pee's and poo's when were gone and she gets realy stressed out. when we come home she gets realy excited and will then not leave our side. if either me or my oh walk out of the room, then she follows as if saying you're nor going any where now.

does anyone else have these sort of problems?
    any tips & advice?

i have tried feeding vegas when i go out, making sure shes got lots of different toys and treats, i.e rawhide, dental chew, scattered biscuits so she can hunt them out! We have also tried leaving a bit of clothing with her too, she likes that.

BUT she still gets realy stressed out, scratches at the doors and trys to dig under the carpet to our bedroom. dom left his t-shirt in her bed this morning, she wondered around looking for him but settled down and snuggled into this t-shirt! Your mum could try giding willie something that smells of her and see how he gets on. trial and error

My Mother-in Laws collie is like this her will bark, howl , and crew things up if left alone for a while , when she goes out I have to have him here with me or I 've got to keep popping up to him , but I think his is because when he was 12 weeks old their kitchen caught alite and the dog was down in there at the time , if he is inclosed anywhere now he goes mental tries everything to get out , but if he has the roam of the house hes alright , they just have to make sure there is nothiong lying around for him to chew .

Suki had this for a few weeks when we first brought her home i found that if i left her for short peiods of time while putting out the washing of going to the toilet while leaving her in a different room worked. i started off at a few mins then just increased it over time. also when you do go back into the room dont pay her any attetion untill she calms down not even any eye contact. This worked for me

crates are good for avioding seporation anxiety and will stop them going to the toilet while you are out, dogs wont go in their own bed. you have to train them properly though, make the crate their safe place.

i found that leaving george was a problem at first, he would pull the t towel and blind off the door, so we gave him something that had been one of ours ;a jumper or old duvet that seemed to do the tick.he soon stopped recking the kitchen just pinched the teddies when on one was looking.
