Re: breeding puppies?
when vegas is old enough i want to breed from her, as i think she will have beautiful puppies.
i am hopeing to get a KC reg male sometime next year, so that when he is old enough to breed, vegas will be ready.

Re: breeding puppies?
i agree with that - not everyone does want 'show' dogs - which is why i thought about having a litter from lightning shes got such a lovely temperment and nature (although she is a bit of a trouble maker around the house!!!!) , she even mothers our kittens - that i thought she would produce lovely, lively outgoing little pups that would make great pet of even working homes (she was farm bred through and through) - i just got a bit put off the other day as there was a similar thread on pf and quite a few people seemed to think it was 'wrong' to breed none kc. personally i dont see a problem with it as long as they are well looked after and happy healthy pups but at the same time i dont want to be class as a 'back street breeder' coz my dog isnt kc'd.
its the same with my cats, i have a couple of bengals, but i also breed moggies!!! not every cat person can afford or want a pedigree cat - most just want a moggie, which around where i live seem to be few and far between.

Re: breeding puppies?
her nature and temperment is good you get a litter out of her if you want i dont think its wrong plus with kc the price is alot more than just pedigree an some people cant pay for kc reg dogs but want family pets so i say go for itdrawn-to-animals wrote:i agree with that - not everyone does want 'show' dogs - which is why i thought about having a litter from lightning shes got such a lovely temperment and nature (although she is a bit of a trouble maker around the house!!!!) , she even mothers our kittens - that i thought she would produce lovely, lively outgoing little pups that would make great pet of even working homes (she was farm bred through and through) - i just got a bit put off the other day as there was a similar thread on pf and quite a few people seemed to think it was 'wrong' to breed none kc. personally i dont see a problem with it as long as they are well looked after and happy healthy pups but at the same time i dont want to be class as a 'back street breeder' coz my dog isnt kc'd.

thanks - both of their natures are great - you should see them with new born kittens - yes i can trust both of them with day old kittens!!!!!! Will let you know when it all happens..... lightning is on her season at the mo - but not going to do it this time round - looking at her next season if we are going to because she will be 2.5 - 3 yrs then and will be on her 3rd season - with storm though she still needs to have here hips scored which we are gong to get done in a couple of months - with her though we are looking to purchase the male - as it was always originally our plan to have a male and female gsd - lightning was kinda of a unplanned addition - but we love her just as much....... i have always loved collies and just couldnt resist - plus her and storm are best friends now - they are alwys together - completely inseparable!!!!!!

Re: breeding puppies?
awww bless them they are such a picture together, very cute!
before we decide to breed from vegas i want to get her hip and elbow scored, just to make sure there are no problems. if there is then i will not breed from her and will have to get her spayed. i wouldnt want to take the risk with the puppies, as i know how bad hip dysplacia can be and how much it costs to get hips replaced and the treatment involved. it would just be so unfair and crule.

Re: breeding puppies?
You are sooooooo right Jen - if anyone is going to breed their first thought has to be for the health of those pups. My oldest boy is not from very reputable breeders and the poor lad has had to have two operations on his eyes for entropian and I have no doubt that he has hip dysplacia to a certain degree - its just not a pleasant life for the dog and that has to be what is at the forefront of peoples minds IMHO

Re: breeding puppies?
I would never breed from any dog male or female if they had any sort of health problems, even if it was skin problems.
i think it is unfair to breed from any dog that has problems, because it will in the long run only become more of a problem and cause unneccessary suffering for any of the new puppies! i would definately spay or neuter a dog if they did have health problems, without a doubt!

Re: breeding puppies?
i would of bred from Pepsi when she was younger but I decided not to , wish i did she has beautiful marking the most excellent temperment , she was a Farm dog so not Kc reg ,
If I was going to breed from an non kc reg I would get all ness checks done , If your not going to show a dog, why at the end of the day do you need to buy a KC reg dog I know alot of un reg dogs and there just as good as the standard breed , I'm one that could not afford the prices of Kc reg dogs , would of liked to , but just to have a title thats just silly

Re: breeding puppies?
I completely agree with you, we got vegas because we werent bothered about showing her, it would have been nice if she was because she is lovely, nice example of her breed i think. i am hopeing to get a male KC reg pup at the end of next year, so i can hopefully show him as id like to do that one day with my dogs and id like a friend for vegas as well!

Re: breeding puppies?
Total agree with you I would like to get a kc one day for showing , I think its a shame why non kc reg dogs can't be shown , because most of these are up to the breed standard , I wouldn't get a friend for Pepsi now shes getting on a bit and I think if I BRING A NEW PUP in she will feel out of place abit , when she has departed from me, which I hope would not be for many years yet , but I WILL get a couple of dogs next and I might invest in one Kc just for the showing side

Re: breeding puppies?
well when she does eventually have a litter of her own i will keep everyone informed and post lots of pics. thats if everyone is still on here that is!
if she does become a lucky mother to a litter then we could come to some sort of arrangement if you wanted one of her pups!
a little mini vegas
